Generally judged by vintage, tea factory mark, storage condition, and tasting. Storage requires a clean, well-ventilated, odor-free environment, avoiding moisture.

Raw tea (Sheng) undergoes no pile fermentation, with a bright, clear flavor, requiring long aging for transformation. Ripe tea (Shou) undergoes rapid pile fermentation, resulting in a mellow flavor, drinkable immediately. Aged tea collection primarily focuses on vintage raw tea, though ripe tea also has a market.

Dry storage (Taiwan, Malaysia dry storage) involves moderate temperature and humidity, slower aging, preserving tea quality and aroma. Wet storage (traditional Hong Kong storage) uses high temperature and humidity, faster aging but with a distinct style. Dry-stored aged teas command a higher premium in the market.

Vintage is difficult to judge solely by appearance; generally reference the tea factory/brand (Dayi, Xiaguan, etc.) and recipe number (e.g., 7542), packaging printing fonts and materials, leaf base and tea liquor color, and storage records. It is recommended to purchase from reputable merchants and keep receipts.
